I made a hammer.

And I'm pretty darn happy about it. My students are learning chasing and repousse so they've been learning to make their own tools, too. I looove making tools--a little too much.

My grandpa gave N an LED light that clips to the underside of his hat bill. Came in pretty handy doing stuff around mom's house this weekend.

New/old

Now that we're back in the land of industry (at least, formerly) N. and I made our first trip to HGR Industrial Surplus (a truly amazing experience for people interested in tools and general junk) last week where I got this cool, old tool box. It needed some T.L.C. because someone had gone crazy on it with some scotch tape, but I got most of it off. I plan to stock it with my frequently used hand-tools so I can take it to school when I teach.

Attitude of gratitude.

I started making jewelry and working with metal when I was 12. When I was 13, my Grandpa Asher, who had worked as a machinist, sent me a box. In that box was a wonderland of strange copper pieces and old tools! This impressive selection of calipers is just a fragment of what he gave me, and I still use most of it on a daily basis. Thanks, Grandpa!
