The jury's out.

Tried enameling on some ornaments today in preparation for my craft show this weekend, the Shaw Art Fair in St. Louis, MO. Considering how I feel about enameling, I don't think it was a total disaster. But it didn't go exactly (or even mostly) as I hoped it would.

pretty cool.

We just replaced one of the enameling kilns in the metals studio and I discovered that the back of the old one looks like this. I dig it.

More things I wish I could afford.

Every time I see some poor person standing on a street corner with a sign, I think about how much I would hate that job.

The day.

So, when I take my daily photo, I always want to try to take a picture that I think sort of captures the essence of my day--something that was particular to it-- but the problem is, I can't take a picture of the warm evening air.

Frosty

Found this yummy organic (American) vodka at out local Acme. It's Vodka 360, and we like it. I like to mix it with Blue Machine Naked Juice, which helps me feel like I'm getting extra vitamins and it's sort of healthy.

More pretty little things.

Labokoff is an artist from Paris, France who sells the most beautiful prints on Etsy. I covet them. Especially these 3.

On the road...again...again...and again....

We had a death in my extended family this week, so N. and I headed to St. Louis Thursday, after I taught class, for the funeral, and here the sun sets as we leave Ohio.

Had dinner with the faculty and students from the University of Akron's metals program last Wednesday at Moe's in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

Fallen

I had an unexpectedly crazy week last week, so I'm behind on posting, but I'll catch up now.

Last Sunday, we, here in NORTHEST OHIO! had 80 mph winds from hurricane Ike! They took down a huge tree on the Kent campus that I used to walk past everyday on my way from the parking lot to the metals studio. And that made me sad.

A political break.

You must visit this link and watch the video if you haven't already, it's hysterical. Tina Fey as Sarah Palin on last Saturday's SNL.

Coming Together

Worked on some small wall-pockets today, and graded student work, and ran errands, and washed dishes, and...

Going to dinner.

Went to dinner Saturday night with friends, to our favorite sushi place, Sakura in Fairlawn, Ohio. Delicious!

Production.

Spent the day pressing about 60 die-formed copper halves that will become ornaments and wall pockets. My hands are blistered.

Inspiration

On Maramiki's etsy shop, she was selling hand-printed fabric scraps, which I bought, and got on Monday. I'm very excited about them!, though I don't know what I'll make that will be worthy of the fabric...yet...

My mom actually refers to her cats as my 'step-siblings'. Yes, we are those crazy cat people.

Saturday

While at the show, I noticed I was basically exclusively studying people's feet as they walked by. I almost had to remind myself to look at the rest of the person, beyond their shoes. So I took pictures of them.

How cool is this?!

I don't know what it is, but we passed it on the way to St. Louis. I think it's either part of a carnival or some kind of advertisement. But a giant ray gun is pretty neat either way.

And. here. she. is!

Our new (to us) 2007 Mazda5. Very well reviewed, and practical--it's a compact minivan that can seat up to 6 adults!-- so we're pretty excited about it. Always a little stressful making such a big decision, but 24 hours in, we're pleased.

A proper Labor Day--for us.

When we're lucky, Labor Day means we're sunburned with aching feet because we've spent the day walking around Hartville, Ohio's annual flea market. Such was the case for this labor day. Saw lots of cool things, but only bought a set of vintage turquoise-colored cloth napkins. I'm thinking of shifting my kitchen colors to include a range of turquoise, agua, light blue and celdon colors, with red accents. Since I'm sure you all care... ;-)

Gettin' Out.

One of the best things about this area of Ohio is its extensive network of free metro parks, as well as the free Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Goodyear Height's Metro Park is less than a mile from our house, so we spent the morning on the trail Sunday. Lovely.
