Family home
This house in the Dogtown neighborhood of St. Louis, MO was bought by my grandparents when my mom was 16. My uncle bought it from them when he graduated from college and his wife and son (only sort of, 'cause he's in college) live in it still (my uncle passed away 5 years ago).Daily photo: 11/29/08

Just love her!
Sarah Vowell spoke today at the Ohio Center for the Book at Cleveland Public Library. Got there too late to get a seat inside the auditorium (she's standing at a podium against that wood paneled wall in the distant background, through the doors, but we could see her on the screen, and she did walk through the crowd RIGHT NEXT TO ME when she went in. I think we made eye contact. Oh, celebrity...

It may not look like much,
but this is a (sort of) homemade chocolate lava cake and it is delicious! It's from a mix by Dr. Oetker, who makes organic baking mixes. I've tried (obviously) the lava cake and the brownies and they've both been really good, and really easy. I recommend them.Daily photo: 11/7/08

For those of you who don't know
Sarah Vowell is one of my favorite authors. She has a new book out, The Wordy Shipmates, and was recently in St. Louis doing a reading and book signing, which my mother and best friend attended.
I was silently indignant when my mom told me she did not have Sarah sign a book for me (I did, after all, introduce her to the fabulous Ms. Vowell) but I soon discovered the reason why.
My dear friend Lacy and her husband Anthony bought us a copy for our anniversary, which they had signed.
How great of a present is that!?!
