I made a hammer.
And I'm pretty darn happy about it. My students are learning chasing and repousse so they've been learning to make their own tools, too. I looove making tools--a little too much.

Butterflies and flowers and lizards.
N. and I went to the Orchid Show at the Cleveland Botanical Garden on Friday. Above are some of the highlights from our visit.

Saturday in St. Louis
Spent the day with my mom and aunt downtown.
We had tea at The London Tea Room, which is an adorable (and delicious) place, then walked around the outside of the wicked cool City Museum. It is filled with salvaged and re-purposed things like airplanes and a log cabin and cast-offs from factories like gears rubber gloves hanging from the ceiling. You can climb on everything and there are numerous slides for kids and adults--need I say more?

Down in the basement again.
Obcession of late.
I'm trying to reduce my use of plastic in the kitchen-starting with how I pack my lunches. Found these Sigg lunchboxes on Reusablebags.com. Little more expensive than some of the steel alternatives, but very well made so I think we'll be happier in the long run.
Also bought these small steel containers for nuts that fit inside the boxes. I wish they didn't say "Kid Konserve," but they were the cheapest I found.
