My bench

Arthur Hash asked some folks to take photos of their "working view", which he plans to post on his blog in the near future.
This is my view--pretty messy, I think, but wait until you see my husband's bench...

Been Crafty

Wednesday was my first day off is about 2 weeks, so I took the time to complete some crafty projects around the house.
I finished up this pom-pom Christmas garland and made a sand-bag draft stopper out of an old pair of N's jeans for the back door.

Tidbits

Just ate some cheese and a pickle on my new little plate from Yasha Butler. And yes, both those food items tasted better because I ate them off of something pretty!

Diamonds and Gold

After the a fore mentioned stone-setting workshop I took, I have made my first jewelry with diamonds and gold. As with the silver ring in my previous post, these diamonds all came out of diamond jewelry I inherited from my grandmother, as did the gold.
I melted the gold down, hammered it into thick sheets and got to settin'! So I guess they're pretty eco-friendly too. It's funny how being too poor to buy materials often dovetails so nicely with being environmentally sound.

New little diamond ring!

I just finished making this sterling silver ring with my new found stone-setting expertise and the diamonds mentioned in the previous post.
It is very delicate as the stone is only about 2 mm in diameter. There are two tiny silver balls on either side of the stone. I'm pretty happy with it. Look for it soon in my shop!

Them're diamonds!

This past weekend I took a workshop through the Society for Midwest Metalsmiths on stone setting. I finally learned how to gypsy set (or flush set, or burnish set--whatever you call it) faceted stones; something I've wanted to learn for a while.
Since diamonds are a durable stone and relatively easy to set, and since I had a tacky diamond ring from my grandma to dismantle, I think I'll be trying my hand at setting some diamonds soon!

This is an example of the kind of setting I'm talking about from Jetflair's Etsy shop.

Forest Park and the St. Louis Art Museum

Yesterday and today I took my Design I classes to the St. Louis Art Museum to look at color. They are beginning a color harmony assignment, in which they have to produce the same image 6 times using a different color scheme in each--very fun, in my opinion.

I love the Art Museum, especially the fact that it's free and has been since it was created for the 1904 World's Fair.

Fun facts: the museum's design was based on the ancient Roman baths of Caracalla. In the top image, the Chase Park Plaza Hotel, visible from the entrance of the Art Museum across Forest Park, was the inspiration for the evil apartment building in Ghostbusters.

The stainless steel tree in the window of the middle image is Placebo by American artist Roxy Paine.

Now you can be my fan on Facebook!

Trying some new aluminum ornaments.

So, hypothetically...

if I was going to a place like, let's say, Italy for a period of 2 to 3 months, these are a couple things that I think would be nice to take with me. A hip bag from JennyNDesign and Dansko's Serafina sandal.

Wishin' and hopin' and thinkin'....

More questions

I just made this new ring and I can't decide if I like the light background, or the dark background better. My husband votes dark, I think I'm leaning light.

Your opinions please.

This is my first attempt to shoot my new wall panels in situ. I'm not sure if I like it and thought I would see if any readers out there had suggestions.

Thanks!

New square wall panel

Just made this new 4" square wall panel. I'm pretty happy with it--especially the color and I think they would look really nice in multiples; so that means I need to make some more!

I Won!

Last year we got this sweater for N. on sale at J. Crew. It may not look like anything special, but it is really warm and comfortable, so though we bought it for him, a tug-of-war ensued. He would come home to find me wearing it and I would keep it on until he started to complain too loudly about being cold. But all's well that ends well (for me!). We just bought N. a new sweater this weekend and this sweater is now mine!
