Goodbye Couch.
N. and I are ditching our old couch for this move 'cross country. The bones of it are sitting out at the trash as I type, but we kept the cushions so we'd have something to sit on tonight and tomorrow.
We plan to buy this new couch from Ikea when we get back to Ohio.

Doin' it up right--British style.
Went to St. Louis for a girl's night Saturday. Began the day with a full afternoon tea service at the new London Tea Room downtown. Complete with a choice of tea, currant scones, Devonshire cream, strawberry jam, raspberry filled cupcakes, shortbread, cucumber and salmon sandwiches and a cup of berries. Fabulous!

I'm excited.
So, as much as I want to be a locavore and believe it's very important to support local businesses in general, the fact remains that I love Starbucks. And my primary reasons are consistency of product (I know that I'll get a decent cappuccino no matter where I am) and the existence of the short (8 oz.) size. I don't like bigger cups than that because if I have it, I drink it, and then I feel like crap.
For awhile now, though, I've been feeling bad about always using disposable cups, especially since Starbucks has the annoying habit of double-cupping the short because the heat sleeve is too big, but I couldn't find a reusable cup that was small enough for my little drink...until now.
Behold the Timolino Travel Mug (with tea infuser--an added bonus). 8 oz. of slim, attractive, resuability. And I plan to force it on the many non-short providing coffee houses, who are welcome to charge me the tall price, but can now only give me the amount of coffee I want! Ha!

Love this.
Found this on FusionFurnitureGallery.com. Am in the process of moving...again...and so, I am wishing everything I owned folded into compact packages. I think this would do quite nicely.

A good (or slightly better) thing.
By now, I've more or less phased out the processed foods in my life. Though it broke my heart to do it, I've sworn off Ramen noodles and store bought salad dressing. So, imagine my delight when I discovered this! I'm not foolish enough to think it's actually healthy, but it certainly is tasty, and at least not as bad for me as the original version. My only complaint is that the pasta isn't whole grain. Now that would be perfect!

The Chase Park Plaza
The Chase Park Plaza hotel near Forest Park in St. Louis was the inspiration for the apartment building of Dana Barrett in Ghostbusters.

Something for someday.
A couple years ago, N and I picked up this porcelain knob at Heart of Ohio Antique Center. 'Hot' and 'cold', I've seen, but never 'waste' so we had to have it. I plan to make it open something unrelated and inappropriate once we have a house of our own, someday.

Visited the scrap yard yesterday, where, incidentally, they are paying $3/lbs for copper scrap! (very high!!).
I love scrap yards, but in a surreal and slightly uncomfortable way. They are very post-apocalyptic and the shear number of things that could cause tetanus boggles the mind. Not to mention the numerous machines that could crush or mangle the pitiful human body without straining one tiny, insignificant, gear. But there's also so much great stuff that the right person could salvage. **sigh** Life is full of such contradictions.
I wonder, if this place is left in it's current state--and let's face it, it probably will be--will it turn into a deeply buried ball of iron ore in 3 million years?

Dessert!
Austin is home to headquarters for Whole Foods. It is amazing. We got dessert for dinner the other night--from top left: Mexican Chocolate Bread Pudding, Apple Pie, Chocolate Cream Pie, and Cherry Cobbler. All delicious!
